3 Three YouTube sites I love….

Well, we’ve made it to the video portion of the social media class, and while I’m still not sure of what I will do for my video, I can easily talk about the 3 YouTube sites I love.  Each YouTube channel I am going to speak about has numerous videos to watch, so please feel free to view any episodes that appeal to you. The reason I love them is that they provide either stress relief, or make me feel better about myself, which is the focus of my “work” in social media.  I started this blog to empower women about their health, and feeling good about yourself (also known as self care) is key in that matter.

The first site is

I know, I know, everyone does yoga, it’s amazing, centers you, blah blah blah… For me it really has helped to focus on the here and now, and not worry so much about the future.  I go once a week to a class, but the rest of the time I don’t know what to do for my home practice (a common complaint in yoga), and this YouTube site helps with that by providing routines for me to do on my own.  The videos look good, have great sound quality, and overall look like they were filmed by professionals. If you are suffering from stress, or find you rush around a lot without time to pause, then yoga, and this website could be beneficial to you.

The second website is

Lauren started her YouTube channel a number of years ago, and originally it was to help sell makeup products on eBay. She is self taught in how to apply make up in a professional way, and the work she does is amazing.  I love to just watch her create these fabulous faces, and then go and try and apply some of her skills when I wear make up.  Sometimes, I just watch her videos because I find her to be a really kind and friendly person, and I like to hear what she has to say. She’s very open and honest about her life, and she obviously wants women to feel better about themselves, as well as have fun with their looks.  All of her videos are in the “talking head” format, but when you are applying make up there isn’t much you can do about that, and really I don’t understand the negativity towards these types of videos.

The last site is one that’s from a tv talk show

The reason I chose this site is that Conan O’Brien makes me laugh on days I don’t always feel like laughing, and his humor has gotten me through some really difficult times.  Conan is both silly and socially on point, and he is using social media to his advantage.  He posts his best bits on this YouTube channel, and it ends up being a great way to market his show. You watch a few videos here and there, and then maybe you start watching his show at night?  He also tweets all his video uploads to increase awareness of his show, and he gets a high number of re-tweets for each clip. If you want a really good laugh check out the video “Bryan Cranston’s Favorite Erotic Fan Letter” up to the 2.20 min point.

These YouTube channels really make you feel better, or connect you to people who make you feel better about yourself.  I think that’s the true power of social media, to connect us so we don’t feel so alone, and to allow us to develop our own identity in the world.

  1. Tonight seems to be a night that’s very hard to love social media, as WordPress seems to be very buggy.

  2. I’m impressed by the diversity of the videos you chose. I have to say that I don’t wear makeup, but I watched a bit of one video, and for a long time I thought it was in a different language the accent was so strong on the presenter. I’m going to assume you can decipher this accent better than I can. The yoga videos were simple, to the point, effective and I think accurate, but I don’t do yoga. They seemed to prefer a static front shot, with varying audio quality. And Conan is Conan, everyone needs a shot of humour! Thank you for these three YouTube channels.

  3. I use YouTube a lot, so I had trouble narrowing my choices, which is why it probably looks so diverse. The girl you are talking about is from Nothern England (called a Geordie) and they do have difficult accents, seems I’ve always had an ear for figuring out what people are saying, as my family is from Cape Breton.

I think you really picked the theme of the yoga videos, simplicity, which is one of the core values. It makes yoga much easier to learn.
